CME Tinsel Run

Welcome the “Tinsel Trail Run”...in memory of Huw Morris

Events Sunday 17th December 2023

Facebook Facebook Cambrian Mountain Events

An exciting and fun 10k (ish) Trail Run in the hills and mountains that surround the quirky old market town of Llanidloes.

The route is on tracks, trails and minor roads in the Cambrian Mountains, and is not your run-of-the-mill urban 10k. You will need lots of common sense; experience to safely navigate tracks, trails & minor roads in the countryside; a great sense of humour to dress up in a Christmas themed outfit and confidence to contend with the potentially dreary weather and muddy terrain underfoot across the course.

The route can prove challenging to the experienced 10K’er attempting to set the best time on the course, or relaxing a scenic hike for the rambler out there looking for a pre-Christmas trek, or simply an all-out fun session for those who wish to join-in and revel in the festive spirit in fancy-dress.

The scenic route will take you on a combination of Track, Trail and Minor Roads; with some wet / boggy terrain thrown-in to contend with when crossing sections of woodland and farmland alike; and will be supported along the way with intermittent manned Check Points at circa 2.5km intervals. Please note that the route is NOT hand-railed, which requires a level of common sense and the participant’s ability to navigate across such a course.

Huw Morris

After a sabbatical CME are reintroducing the popular Llani 10k Trail Run to our list of annual events again, in memory of Huw who sadly recently passed away. Huw was a key member of the CME founding team, and the Llani 10k Trail was one of his favourite routes.

Huw was a great friend; a dedicated and highly qualified Mountain Safety Marshal; a conscientious Mountain Event and Motorsport Marshal; and a true all round gentleman who made a mark on all those who had the pleasure of meeting him, and was rock to those who needed support in trying times.

He had the privilege of experiencing a varied, diverse and adventurous life; and was a patriotic Welshman though and through; who eventually seemed to find solace in the barren Cambrian Mountains in the heart of Wales. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him and loved him dearly.

Some Key Views en route

The Route

Starting out from the event venue at the Whistling Badger Public House in the Llanidloes Town Centre, the route heads out of town over Long Bridge to follow Severn Way into Allt Goch Wood and the Trail up to the St Idloes Golf Club; then continues to join the Glyndwr’s Way long distance trail up to the Van Terrace, to then leave Glyndwr’s Way and follow the Trail through Garth Farm down to Cefngoleugoed to cross the Minor Road and head down to cross the Afon Clywedog; then the route heads up to Cringoed and follows the Trail back through Cwmeryr Bach, Cwmeryr Mawr and Summerfied Park to return the Llanidloes town Centre and the Finish at the Whistling Badger.

The Tinsel Trail Run route will be waymarked to guide participants along the course at key points on route and changes of direction, but will NOT be "handrailed" throughout. CME reserve the right to change sections of the route without notice to accommodate unforeseen safety issues or aspects specific to respective on-route Farm requirements; where time-permitting CME will advise all entrants of any such changes by email prior to the event, or latest at the Entrants Brief prior the start on the event day.

Please note that sections of the route are through private "working" Farmland with expressive permission from the landowners, for the Event day only. Participants must stringently respect this, and ensure all closed gates are left closed and open gates left as found when travelling through such Farmland. Strict compliance with the "Country Code" is also required.

This event is dog friendly for responsible owners and CaniCross participants alike; who must ensure their canine friends are controlled and on a lead at all times; and also responsibly collect, carry and dispose excrement in a dedicated dog waste bin when available.

Please follow us on Facebook for updates and event information as we progress the planning and implementation stages of the Event. An Entrants Brief, Route Map and the Route Coordinate GPX File will be included in the Entrants Pack that is electronically provided once you have booked your place and paid the entry fee.
